Sellers and providers of alcohol beware.   The Ohio Investigative Unit is utilizing their enhanced resources to trace where alcohol has come from in connection with accidents that involve liquor and beer.    Troopers are now including a trace-back portion of that investigation to determine if the provider was negligent in providing alcohol, and broke any laws.  Those questions seek to find if the purchaser was underage, or if they were intoxicated when served.       Criminal charges can be filed against individuals, and administrative charges can be filed against the liquor permit.

Of the 78 trace-back cases investigated so far this year in OHio, 44 have led to cases being closed.  But another 16 cases have led to arrests or administrative citations being issued.   Another 18 are open cases under investigation.
