Technology and facilities were hot topics for the Napoleon area school board of education Monday night. The board learned that bids for the junior high addition and high school renovation are now being reviewed by the construction manager; and will likely be awarded in the next week or two.
That means construction at the high school could get underway by the end of this month.
Supt. Fogo revealed news about plans for a technology upgrade in the Napoleon Schools. It was discovered that Napoleon needs 350 more computers throughout the grade-levels, just to meet minimum state standards.
The Napoleon board passed a resolution to support an enterprise zone tax abatement agreement for Keller Packaging of Napoleon, which would allow for a 195,000 square foot warehouse facility to be constructed along road 12, east of Napoleon. This project would create 15 new jobs, and Napoleon schools would receive about $16,400 each year to make up for the loss in tax dollars over the next ten years.
In personnel action; the Napoleon board approved Joe Good as the new varsity boys basketball coach. He is a 1995 Napoleon grad.
The board also hired Mike Vannett as interim athletic director for the current school year.
Amanda Gilles was approved as a Title-1 reading teacher at Central Elementary; and Nancy Hoover and Tonya Bok were named part-time teachers at St. John Lutheran and St. Augustin.
And the Napoleon board went into executive session to discuss how the district will dispose of their various buildings when the new construction was complete; but no action was taken.
