MARCH 2014 UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

For some reason, the job picture in HenryCounty and FultonCounty is significantly different than in Defiance and WilliamsCounties in early Spring.   The latest unemployment rates have been released by Ohio Job and Family Services, and they indicate Fulton and HenryCounties have the highest jobless rates in the entire region of northwest Ohio.  FultonCounty’s rate last month was 7.3%, while HenryCounty was 7.2.   That’s compared to numbers like 5.9% in Defiance County, and 5.7% in WilliamsCounty.  PutnamCounty was lowest in the area with 5.6% unemployment, and WoodCounty was 5.8.                 But when compared to last year at this time, everyone’s jobless numbers are down.  Henry and FultonCounties were each at 8.9% in March 2013.   And HenryCounty has fallen from 10% unemployment in March 2012, to their 7.2% figure.               The state average for unemployment in March was 6.1%.  So while most of northwest Ohio fell below that mark, Henry and FultonCounties were both a full percentage point above it.

Around the BuckeyeState, MonroeCounty had the highest unemployment rate, at 12.5%.   The lowest jobless numbers were 3.7% in MercerCounty; and a 4.1% rating in Holmes and Delaware counties.
