It was a long night for the Napoleon and RidgevilleTownship fire departments. A blaze that ignited in the basement of a rural Napoleon home west of the city Monday evening, rekindled late Monday, and brought the whole structure to the ground. Napoleon fire-fighters were dispatched to the Phillip Cordes residence along road 18 between roads P and Q-1 at yesterday. The blaze spread from the basement, through the first floor, and up into the attic of the structure. Napoleon Fire Department was joined at the scene by RidgevilleTownship, Malinta and Jewell Fire Departments, along with the Red Cross. Holgate Fire Department and EMS protected the Napoleon station during the blaze. Some residents were home when the fire was discovered; but no one was transported from the scene. Due to the cold conditions, the Red Cross disaster mobile disaster unit was brought to the scene. With the re-igniting of the blaze, Liberty and Florida fire departments were also called to the site. In all, crews were at the scene for a 12-hour period. The Cordes home is a total loss, and the family lost everying inside. The Red Cross is assisting the family with living arrangements. But the exact cause of the blaze has not been determined.
